Artist Comments
Working with the female form, my interest and concern about the global storiesof women's lives told from historical and current perspectives fuels my choice of subject matter, symbolism and narrative. The painting techniques of underpainting, scumbling and glazing, so prevalently used in Renaissance painting, acknowledges my inspiration by Renaissance art. My paintings contain symbols that speak to varying degrees of contrast - light and shadow, solitude and exclusion - and an ingerweaving of historical and present day time periods, invoking many levels of interpretation.
